Premier League manager tipped to quit after disastrous transfer window

The transfer window closed at 7pm on Monday - with some Premier League bosses happier than others.

A Premier League manager has been tipped to become the first to leave this season after the transfer deadline.

Deals have been completed up and down the country on Monday as clubs desperately scramble to finalise their squads before the deadline.

The biggest transfer saga of the summer has been Alexander Isak's potential move from Newcastle to Liverpool, with the two clubs finally agreeing a £125 million fee early on Monday morning.

The completion of that deal will take Liverpool's spending over £300 million.

They were also due to complete a move for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, but The Athletic's David Ornstein reported that the deal was off shortly after the deadline.

The Eagles have spent much of Monday attempting to seal a replacement for their club captain, but a loan move for Brighton defender Igor Julio fell through.

According to reports, Glasner himself personally requested Guehi to stay because the club failed to sign an adequate new centre-back.

It is symptomatic of a number of Palace's transfer opportunities this summer, with Glasner publicly speaking out about his frustration over the club's lack of business.

Palace have only paid fees for three signings this summer, with Villarreal winger Yeremy Pino being their most expensive acquisition at an initial fee of £21.6 million.

They have also paid £3 million for Ajax left-back Borna Sosa, while 19-year-old centre-back Jaydee Canvot has arrived from French side Toulouse on deadline day.

And a loan move for Spurs winger Manor Solomon - who was playing in the Championship last season with Leeds - is nearing completion.

Although Guehi will be staying at Selhurst Park in an outcome that could transform Palace's season, fans will still no doubt be disappointed that, ahead of a campaign of European football coming up, the club did not manage to bring in more players.

Their sale of Eberechi Eze to Arsenal also means that Palace spent more on outgoings than incomings this summer.

And speaking on talkSPORT prior to the change of plan over Guehi, former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan has tipped Glasner to walk out of the club after deadline day.

He said: “Clearly, and definitively, there’s going to be a breakdown between Glasner and Palace sooner rather than later.

“I think it’s pretty clear that, a year ago, Glasner expected to be supported. And he wasn’t, and he took it on the chin. This summer, he really expected to be supported, and that’s before they sold Eberechi Eze. So the fact he’s had his best player sold to Arsenal and has had very little spent, that’s not going to augur well to the relationship.

“He’s got a year left on his contract, and he’s a very good manager. So I suspect that this will cause some problems.

“From my understanding, he loves London. I think his daughter goes to university in London, and wants to be in London. But his stock is high, and there is a demand for him.

“He finds himself in a situation where Palace have had unprecedented success under him. They’ve punched very hard in the league after a very poor start, they’ve won the FA Cup, they’ve won the Community Shield, they’re playing in Europe. His reward is to have a depleted squad.

“He took it [the opportunity at Palace] and he repaid it. You can’t turn round to a guy that’s been here for two years, you’ve given him very little support economically, you’ve sold his best players, whether it be Olise or Eze, and then say to him, ‘You’ve won the FA Cup, you’ve got us into Europe, and your reward for that is to have less’. It can’t be, can it? It just can’t be, by any standard."
